Hello Pretty Autumn

The bright and beautiful hues of crimson, copper, bronze, burgundy, scarlet, goldenrod, pumpkin, mustard and canary are contrasting with the evergreens at the lake.

These photos were taken last weekend (9/27/14). We started out at our camp in Old Forge, and arrived at our destination in Keene, NY.

Our annual girls weekend in the mountains. That's me on the left.

Sharing a little bit of what I have been up to. Decorating with tomatoes ;o)

A cold front came through a couple weeks ago, and we had to fire up the wood stove to keep warm at camp. The stove is our only heat source and we love that cozy feeling.

I've had these pictures in my camera for a while, and this was the day we took mom to get some mums. She is in the process of setting up 80 carved pumpkins for Halloween.  I'll post photos on Halloween.

You've probably seen the wooden boxes on Pinterest and blogs that are being used for centerpieces. I got the supplies at Home Depot and Joe made the wooden box that measures 36" long and 6" wide. We used it for our Thanksgiving centerpiece last year, inspired by Life and Linda's blog.

A handful of spiders, MacKenzie-Childs ornaments, garland with little pumpkins, and two pumpkin faced dolls were added to the Autumn box.

The MacKenzie-Childs owl Christmas tree topper was happy to fly out of the attic for Halloween.

The centerpiece was put together with items I had on hand.  I first filled the box with two rolled bath towels and added spider webbing from the dollar store. This filled up the bottom of the box, and then I started adding items to the tippy top.

As always, thank you for stopping by!

  1. Ooh Debbie, how I loved seeing the Fall foliage pictures and your warm and cozy fire at camp. Yes, that giant tomato sure looks like a pumpkin! The wooden box that Joe made is so pretty and filled with fun Halloween decor. Rich made me one several, years ago and I keep it on my dining room table always.
    Happy weekend! xo

It must be so nice to have a cottage..a little get away..with the fire going..I think you have a great little store near there where you can buy kitchen things?

    1. Yes,.Coeur de boeuf, and they are wonderful for sauce. You remembered those egg poachers I bought ;o) One of the kitchen items I use most. I love going to town to peruse the kitchen gadgets. They have stuff that I don't see in the big stores.

    1. We do have beautiful foliage in the northeast and each region is peak at a different time so we get to enjoy it for a while. We are beyond peak at our camp, but haven't had much color change where we live yet. I helped mom set up her pumpkins yesterday, and we planned a Halloween party for the 26th. I'll be sure to share pictures.

  8. I am going to share this link with my friend who will most likely pass out from the excitement of seeing such beauty! (Yup...I want to make her pass out. That's what friends are for!) The color is just amazing! Nature is quite the artist, huh?

That is a tomato on the table? I'm glad you clarified that because I surely would have gone on my merry way thinking it was a colorful pumpkin even though you clearly said it wasn't! That thing is as big as my head...but let's not discuss that because I'm a little sensitive! :-)

Joe did a slam dunk job on your centerpiece box! I really like the decorative touches to it, and the "filling" is fun!

It is obvious you are enjoying fall. Keep on keepin' on!

  15. That owl is perfect for Halloween. :-) So glad you rescued it from the attic. I'll bet it's stunning on top of your Christmas tree, too. How blessed you are to have this versatile piece. I so enjoyed seeing your colorful leaves! They are amazing, and you get to see them every year. Our coloring is so late in the South, the leaves usually blow off of the trees from winds only days after they turn. We have to look quickly! Anyway, your girls weekend sounds fun - nothing better than days filled with laughter.
    Blessings~
