Martha's Vineyard and Fairy Tales

Susan Branch's book arrived in the mail on Saturday, and I have not put it down except to sleep and do this blog post. I think you would love it too! As I am reading it, I am recalling the beautiful sights from when we went to Martha's Vineyard in July 2013 for a week. We will go again once we retire :-)  Vineyard Colors photographer allowed me to share photos on my blog when I did the post in July 2013. Most of the photos below were taken in May and June 2013.
Brookside Farm, Chilmark.
Vineyard Haven Harbor - 5:24 a.m.
Quiet Fuller Street beach has a wonderful view of Edgartown Lighthouse.
5:14am, Edgartown Great Pond: standing in the water to hide the rising sun behind the boat.

Keith Farm, Chilmark

Lambert's Cove Beach, West Tisbury
Long Point Wildlife Refuge, W. Tisbury
North Road, Chilmark - wet, foggy, spring morning
Oak Bluffs Harbor
Seaview Ave., Oak Bluffs
Squibnocket Beach, Chilmark
One the many colorful cottages in Oak Bluffs.

We walked by Susan Branch's home when we were on the Vineyard (I was hoping she would come out in the yard LOL). In case you've never been to Martha's Vineyard - the three most populous towns are “down-Island” — Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, and Vineyard Haven (also called Tisbury). The three rural communities are “up-Island” — Aquinnah, Chilmark, and West Tisbury.

Thanks for stopping by!
Debbie

  2. I love it when a place comes alive through memories of a visit like yours, then followed by a story such as your new book, Debbie. We traveled to Martha's Vineyard for just a day trip on our first trip through New England several years ago, visiting Edgartown, renting a car, and driving up island to Acquinnah. Would love to go back for a stay. Thanks for sharing, and for the enticement!

  4. I love a book that I can't put down, Debbie, and I know that I would love Susan Branch's new book. I remember when you and Joe went on your vacation to Martha's Vineyard. The pictures you've shared are dreamily romantic. Maybe one day I can get the chance to visit.
Have a great week, sweet friend!

  6. Wasn't it a fun read? Now we have to read the next two in the series! Have you read Elin Hilderbrands books? All take place in Nantucket - that's where you will have to go next!

  7. It definitely was a run read! I have about 20 pages left to go and don't want it to end. LOL I ordered A Fine Romance from the library and should have it by Thursday. The kids want to get me Isle of Dreams for Mother's Day. I have tried samples of Elin's books on my Kindle.

  11. Some books are very hard to put down and you hate it when you've reached the end. It's nice that the book brought back nice memories. :)

  12. OK, how did I miss this post? I know we were texting about this book, but didn't see this post. Could it have been that I was reading the book???? Yes, loved every page! It took me back to my own youth. Didn't grow up in CA, but Susan and I are the same age and many of the experiences and feeling felt close to home. No, I didn't get to meet the Beatles, but just life itself felt so familiar. I can't wait for Isle of Dreams. We spent a vacation on Martha's Vineyard in the 80s. I'm curious if we were there when she had just move to the island. I need to look up our travel dates. Susan will be here in Austin on June 18 for a book signing. So excited to actually meet her. I wish she were speaking, but it is just a book signing.
I read A Fine Romance when it first came out, but am reading it again. I actually keep her books on my bedside table. It's fun to just pick them up and read a section with all the quotes and art work she includes. Do you have Girlfriends?
