Our Camp

I am here....enjoying life lived outside...losing track of time. Enjoying sunsets and moonlit evenings. My parents and grandparents built our camp in the Adirondack Mountains over 45 years ago and I was introduced to this summer lifestyle at an early age.  Now campfires every evening courtesy of Joe. The neighbors say he does it best. He's also the marshmallow toaster. Our 3 1/2 month old grandson Xavier is the fourth generation to spend time at the camp and many great memories await him.

Joe built the camp shed. My father was deceased and never got to meet Joe. My dad and Joe would have been best buds....no doubt.
It's a skyscraper :-) The shed holds a LOT of firewood and you'll never bump your head.

Our neighbor's camp.....we have great neighbors. We are all in "chill mode" when we are at camp and everyone is happy and sociable.
The dirt road to our our camp is also a snowmobile trail in the winter.

"Northern Exposure" is our next door neighbor's camp. We see them quite often, and enjoy sharing stories around the campfire.
Our camp is far enough off the road to be somewhat private. Especially our backyard since it is designated Forever Wild. We have dad to thank for the location.

The calm surroundings and breathtaking views are just what we need after a crazy work week. You can't beat an early-morning paddle on a misty lake for feeling like you've crossed into another world. Our alarm clock is the call of the Loon. We love waking up that way.

There is a 740-mile water trail that begins near our camp and goes through Saranac Lake and into Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine before ending in Quebec.

Have you spent time at a family camp? I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Debbie I LOVE your camp! Yes, I have spent time at (extended) family camps, and my kids have been able to do the same in their own families. WV is much like NY in that way....camps, lakes, outdoor life that restores the body & mind. How fortunate you are to be able to share the same dwelling with now the 4th generation. That early morning description on the water was perfect. I would feel right at home in your camp abode. Thanks for the peek.

  2. First of all, Debbie, that beginning photo of you and Xavier looking into each other's eyes, was just precious! I never tire of seeing your family camp, and all the treasured memories you have. Your dad was so thoughtful in purchasing that special property for generations to enjoy. Rich and I used to take the kids camping and enjoy the outdoors. I can see why all the stress just leaves, once you hit that cabin in the woods!

  4. Debbie, I love seeing the picture of holding your grand baby. That is my favorite age. I only have 2 grandsons, and the youngest is almost 4. There is NOTHING so special as grandchildren. Enjoy every minute!
No, I did not grow with a camp experience. It looks idyllic from your point of view. My first camp experience was at Camp Kappy when my daughter was in 3rd grade ( 25 years ago) and the thing I remember was having to go up the hill and back down again to go to the bathroom. LOL

  7. Hi Deb, I did grow up going to a cabin on a lake that my parents built. I spent many nights sleeping on a patch of floor because all the relatives and friends came up to the tiny two bedroom space, but we loved it! We stopped going when our kids were born, and started going to our own space in very northern NH where it sticks into Canada. Last summer was the first time we didn't go, as getting everyone free at the same time seems to be impossible. The photo of you and Xavier is so perfect. And the lake is amazing! I know why you love it there so much. Linda
