Pumpkinheads and a Winner!

I told Joe he should remove the storm door on the front of our house so we don't have the glare when taking photos. He just smiled.

Our lil punkin Xavier went to the Pumpkin Junction. His first time seeing pumpkins :-)

Now look at that beautiful dahlia that is huge and blooming right now in my garden. I have declared it my favorite flower of the summer. I order the bulbs from Swan Island Dahlias and was very pleased. They are still blooming and a frost is predicted for tonight.

Each year I show you mom's pumpkins..she was the master :-)
"When you do it with heart, that's art!"

If you've been following my blog for a while, you may recall that Mom loved carving pumpkins and she carved at least 125 pumpkins over a ten year period. I previously did a post on her pumpkins explaining that Mom used the "carvable" foam pumpkins and Pumpkin Masters patterns. After she finished carving the pumpkin, she traced around a quarter coin on the bottom back of the pumpkin and cut a hole for the light. The trick or treaters and neighbors looked forward to the display each year. Our local TV station also featured them. After mom passed away, we distributed the pumpkins to family members. Our "pumpkin lady" left us with wonderful pumpkin memories, and Halloween will always be a fun time for our family.
In honor of National Pasta Day, Patsy’s Italian Restaurant in New York City offered one of my readers  two of Patsy’s famous pasta sauces and a copy of their latest cookbook. I will definitely be making the wonderful veal meatballs that "Frank" loved, and can't wait to check out Patsy's when we are in New York City in December.
The winner of the the cookbook and sauce is............

Thanks for stopping by!

  7. Debbie, I don't think I ever saw your mom's pumpkins but they are amazing, and what a wonderful way to share her talents by giving them to family members. Xavier will look at them in the future and hear about his great-grandmother too. He is adorable sitting there with his pumpkin, and looks delighted. Your front porch is gorgeous too! I hope you picked the dahlias before the frost came. Linda

  8. What a beautiful entrance, Debbie (even with the glare from the storm door - LOL)! I hated cutting down my dahlias last week as they were still blooming also. I dig up and store my tubers each year and I've read they need to get as much energy into the tuber as possible before digging them. What great memories of your mother's pumpkins! Enjoy your little punkin this Halloween :) Congrats to Linda!
