Memory Bottle Tablescape and A Recipe

Mr. Mountain Breaths has a secret stash of receipts, brochures, artifacts, wine bottles and doo dads from our travels. So far we have nine memory bottles in our collection. They bring many smiles.

Using an empty wine bottle, he uses wood glue, glue-all or contact cement to secure the memory items to the bottle. After he glues, he puts rubber bands around the bottle to keep everything tight while the glue dries. When he gets to the top of the bottle, it gets a bit challenging. So he cuts those items at an angle so they will fit better.

What a cute name for a New York City cafe - Evergreen Cafe (Noodles and Fun)!

It was very "interesting" to visit the Museum of Sex in New York City. We try to visit a new museum each time we visit NYC.

I love this bottle from 1999 with the Cafe Nero business card. My husband  surprised me with a 40th birthday party at the cafe, and I'll never forget it. Lots of friends, Lots of fun ;o)  My birthday is in August, but he held the party in May. I DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE!!!

I was in the mood for a blue tablescape this week, inspired by my husband's blue bottle collection. This time of year, blue is a welcome sight. We had three consecutive days of sunshine recently, and I loved seeing the blue sky!

The edging on the vintage tablecloth is wonderful.

Tablecloth - Vintage

Napkins - Martha Stewart (found at the Dollar Store a few years ago)

Blue floral dinner plates : TJ Maxx

Matching salad plates: TJ Maxx

Flatware - Big Lots (a few years ago)

Blue Floral Lamp - from a boutique 30 years ago

Blue glass bottles - from my husband's antique collection

Music Pairing: Time In A Bottle - Jim Croce

Before we left for our getaway, I came across a blog that featured Cinnamon Bun Bar Cookies. My tastebuds were swooning! I shared these cookies my special friend Paula so she would heal quicker after her surgery ;o) The recipe is here at An Edible Mosaic.

Thank you for your interest in my blog!  I really appreciate the time you take to leave me comments!

I'm joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. If you love creative tablescapes, check it out.

Hello, I'm Debbie.I enjoy hiking, kayaking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the Adirondack Mountains (thus Mountain Breaths). I live in Upstate NY with my supportive husband and have three precious sons..

  1. Your memory bottles are so must be fun remembering each place while your husband is "building" them.
As always, your table is beautiful. The plates are so pretty.

  2. I wish that I traveled more!! Those bottles are a wonderful idea! :)

  3. You are truly a bargain-hunting QUEEN! LOVE your blue and white, and LOVE your husband's memory bottles. LOVE your blog!

  4. Love the memory bottles, really a great idea and they look so nice! Those cookies look awesome!

  5. My roommate and I used to do the same with bottles in college - they are now long gone...such a great conversation starter and wonderful memories you have there! Very pretty table setting, too! I printed out the recipe - they look delish!

  6. Debbie, that is a very innovative idea for all those wine bottles. And I've been throwing mine away because I couldn't think of a creative use for them.

  7. I love Joe's memory bottles, I'm sure they make you feel very special!
The table setting is beautiful, the lamp is gorgeous! The bars go without saying...

  8. Beautiful tablecloth, and I just love the plates! I have the same napkins from the same source! :)
Those buns look fabulous. I have to go check the recipe!

  9. How interesting are those memory bottles! Very neat. I love that your husband does this. Your dishes are sooo pretty. (I'm featuring blue and white this week too.)

Oh, I am such a sucker for anything cinnamon roll..thanks for the recipe!

  10. What a wonderful idea! I wish I had thought of commemorating trips this way since I always seem to have *ahem* empty bottles! Thanks for sharing this :-)

  11. What a great idea those memory bottles are! I love the decoupage on them. Your husband is really very artistic. Nice surprise of a birthday party. Loving your blue and white dishes, but swooning over the lamp! Thanks so much for dropping in with your especially kind comments.

  12. Love your table and your wonderful bottles. It's fun to recognize a few things on the bottles.

  13. Debbie...

Thank you for stopping by my blog! I have a question for you. Do you have names of some second hand stores here (if you are willing to share!) I was checking and I think the closest Good Will is in Herkimer.

  14. I was wondering when we'd get to see your memory bottles again :) Everything looks beautiful, as always!

  15. What a clever idea! I'm always bring home a bag full of cards and such from any trip. I just may have to make a few memory bottles. LOL
