Tybee Island, Georgia

We recently enjoyed a slower pace and returned home just in time to host Easter dinner for my family of 12.
Local seafood and atmosphere
Enjoyed seeing two lighthouses on the island.

We had two beach days. The other days were only 55-60 degrees.
 Miles of white sandy beaches
We grabbed lunch at Lady and Sons in Savannah on the day we took the trolley tour.  Filled my shopping tote with some southern goodies.
Spanish moss dripping from the trees in Savannah.
A very laid back island (no ball gowns), we enjoyed the nature trails.
Creative small businesses
Cherokee Roses blooming in March

Lights out! Sea turtles dig in the dark. Tybee has incredible turtle ponds.
Loved the polka dot shutters on the cottage across the street from ours.
Tybee Island is a picturesque, casual town located 20 minutes east of Savannah, GA. Perhaps the most laid-back destination on the southeastern coast, Tybee Island offers something for everyone with its miles of white sandy beaches, incredible turtle ponds, wildlife-filled marshes and epic sunsets.
Who can resist this home with a 45 foot Porch with views of the Ocean. It even has an Elevator in the kitchen to haul groceries.  Surely, one of the finest homes on Tybee.  I was going to take a photo of it, but felt awkward.
We rented a cottage on Horsepen Creek, and the property had some of the most beautiful azaleas I have ever seen. I have since found out that the owner's mom was an avid gardener until her health began to fail in her mid 80's.
Her favorites were azaleas, camellias, and day lilies. She had many varieties of all three. She had rooting beds for azaleas and distributed many plants to various friends for over 40 years.  He said there's at least several thousand plants around Savannah that she rooted from cuttings of various varieties. The house he grew up in was on 1 3/4 acres and probably 1/4 was in various flower beds. In his early days he had to dig many holes when he would have rather been out in the adjacent woods.  Probably spurred his "turn to the sea"--he could get away in a boat whilst his younger brother got stuck with the digging.
I have a million more pictures, but I don't want to bore you. After a long New York winter, everything looked so lush and beautiful so I just kept taking pictures.

Thank you for stopping by!

Hello, I'm Debbie.I enjoy hiking, kayaking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the Adirondack Mountains (thus Mountain Breaths). I live in Upstate NY with my supportive husband and have three precious sons..

  1. I think we golfed there? It looks so familiar. Looks like you had such a nice time

    1. Perhaps you golfed in Savannah or Augusta. Thankyou, we did have a wonderful vacation.

  2. Sounds like a wonderful place to visit! The perfect get-away for this time of year:@)

  3. What a great getaway for you and Joe, Debbie! I LOVED the polka dot shutters. Wouldn't it be fun to live where you felt free to do that? I also liked hearing about the lady that loved to garden ad root plants that are now everywhere on the island. That was her passion in life and now others are enjoying it. I'd love to hear what you had to eat at The Lady and Sons. Was it all that you hoped and expected? Thanks for sharing the beauty of your trip. xo

  4. It would not bore me to see more:)
I love the polka dot shutters too!
So fitting w/ your MCK C bag..:) They just go together.
Don't you love your white jean jacket? I have one..and last summer I got a stain on it..I am good at removing stains..I got the stain out,but now there is a big discolored towards yellow patch:(
RIta..a an artist I follow recommended the book Miss Rumphius to me.. a child's book..that adults can love and I do:)Sounds like your lady~
    You both look great!
    How was Paula's resto?
Where we stay in Fl..is very much like that.Laid back..no hotels..♥

  5. Debbie, this looks like the perfect get away for those who live through a NY winter. ;-)
I've spent a bit of time in Savannah and visited Tybee Island. You two look great and so does Miss Aurora. Fun to see your photos, and like Monique, I'd love to see more. Beautiful flowers and sandy beaches! Miss CC and I took a day trip to the TX hill country today. Long, fun day! This her second antique trip adventure, so she is getting out some. ;-)

  6. isn't that big house paula deen's?? Iknow she built one on the island and I think rents it out.
I love Tybee too.. its an annual gal pal trip for us every yr

  7. So glad you had a great time! I see Miss Aurora had fun, too! Great pics!

  8. Debbie, This is on our list of must-see destinations and your photos definitely reinforced that! That huge house is fabulous but I think part of the appeal of these little oceanside spots is the fact that there are cute cottages, more relaxed and sweet. You can post more photos--I won't be bored! Linda

  9. What a beautiful and peaceful getaway, Debbie. I love that part of the south, and the shutters, and your tote :)

  10. Debbie, I was at Tybee Island recently. We enjoyed a pleasant lunch there and rode around enjoying the scenery. We were staying in Savannah three days and we also took the trolley tour. There is much to see and do there and your pictures are great.

I'm so happy you decided to stop by my blog. Please leave a comment as I enjoy hearing from each and every one of you!
