LOVE AFFAIR WITH SUGAR CUBES

My love affair with heart shaped sugar cubes all started with a text message from a dear friend and co-worker on New Year's Day. I'm guessing she finally had some time to sit down and read her magazines that she truly enjoys. She has an eye for what we both love, and just about every  other day, she shares an idea with me.

This is the text photo I received. I went on line and found the sugar cubes, but the shipping was more than the item so I dismissed the idea for a few days. Read on.....

Last evening, I received an email from Carol, a wonderful blogger friend that I have never met but feel like I have. She found instructions on Lalalove blog to make heart shaped sugars! Of course I had to make them, and will be sharing a jar of sugar hearts with the friend who first shared the idea with me ;o) And speaking of Carol, I am using her recipe for french toast casserole this morning! The recipe is here There's Always Thyme. Thanks Carol!

I am joining The Tablescaper for Seasonal Sunday and The Little Red House for Monday Mosaic, Cozy Home Scenes for the Cozy Home Party and Foodie Friday. It was 55 degrees so I changed my blog header and put a "think snow" snowman on it. We have a winter vacation booked for February in Lake Placid, and have winter activities planned. That is why I added the snowman ;o)  I'll remove it after our trip!

Thank you for stopping by!

Countdown to Valentine's Day

All around our home in February, you will find little hearts. The majority of the hearts are gifts from Mr. Mountain Breaths. He is romantic and surprises me with hearts. I think he enjoys my reaction, and my heart collection is growing.

A new addition this year is the litttle antique cookie cutter and  poker chips. He's pretty sneaky when we go antiquing. When he finds things in the huge antique store, he sneaks away and has the cashier wrap them. When we checkout, I never ask what he's buying since they are already wrapped ;o) He thinks I haven't caught on either.

Here in blogland, there is a Valentine Party being held over at Laurie's place on Friday. Hope to see you there! There will be LOTS of hearts.

I'm joining The Tablescaper for Seasonal Sundays, and Mary at Little Red House for Monday Mosaic. Wishing everyone a good week ahead!

Looking at Seed Catalogs

It's that time of year when I start thinking about my garden. When I opened The Cooks Garden seed catalog and saw this beautiful photo of Romanesco broccoli, I could not keep my eyes off it. It's an Italian heirloom, and a work of art. Each packet has 130 seeds, so I'll share the seeds with my fellow gardeners. It's a new variety, and I'm willing to give it a chance in my garden.

The seed catalogs are a gentle reminder that our winter activities will eventually cease, and we'll be seeing green instead of white. Yesterday, we went to Whetstone Gulf State Park which is built in and around a three-mile-long gorge cut into the eastern edge of the Tug Hill Plateau in New York. It's about an hour from our home. The gorge is one of the most spectacular scenic vistas east of the Rocky Mountains.

The snow did not let up all day, so my hood came in very handy.

For those of you may like to try snowshoeing for exercise in the winter months, you can do it in your own backyard if you have the land available. We can drive 10 minutes from our house to a local park or golf course to snowshoe. If you can walk, you can showshoe. In the picture below, you will see I have the aluminum showshoes with crampons that dig into the snow and ice for traction. I use ski poles, but you don't have to.

Snowshoeing is a peaceful adventure, and a nice way to spend quality time with family and friends.

As much as I love winter, please Hurry Up Spring so I can grow some broccoli!

I am joining the weekly Seasonal Sundays and Monday Mosaic. You can visit both and see what others are sharing on their blogs.

Thank you so much for stopping by!!
