In mid-August, I took a break to get away from the stresses of work and went to the queen of all parks. With 843 acres of parkland, rolling hills, shaded paths, lakes and the Bethesda Fountain, it was a perfect place to stroll on a hot, summer day. The temperature was over 90 and the city was feeling like one massive sauna. I felt the temperature drop at least 10 degrees once we got to Central Park.
In Central Park, almost before you become aware of the subtle transition, the city leaves you. We filled our tote, set up a table cloth on the grass and indulged ourselves on Trader Joe's New York style cheesecake and a bottle of water. If you're curious about the story of Courtly Check, you can read about it here.
You can see the picturesque and recognizable Bow Bridge which is a great spot for a picnic in Central Park. It has been the setting for many movies and is one of the most romantic spots in the city. Do you remember seeing the Bow Bridge in the movie "You've Got Mail"?
The popular Bethesda Fountain.

The Bow Bridge links Cherry Hill to the Ramble. It's best to picnic on the gentle slopes of Cherry Hill overlooking the bridge. The bridge is located mid-park around 72nd Street.
Boy was I hot and sweaty in this photo. We went to Tavern on the Green to have lunch and cool down.
Always a fun statue to see in Central Park and don't you think that Alice needs a tote?
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Hear it from New York!

Miss MacKenzie Joy went with my friend Colleen to the Thornden Park Rose Garden in Syracuse, NY. I look forward to checking this park out next year.

If you are enjoying the Tales of the Traveling Tote, I hope you'll visit again in October when Miss Aurora shares her tales of The Gold Days of Fall.
It was fun traveling thru Central Park with you - I especially love to go to Tavern on the Green and have spent many happy hours there!! Your tote is os lucky to join you on your adventures!!
ReplyDeletePatti, I have told my tote how lucky she is to be living with us!
DeleteI wish I had eaten at TOTG when I went:) Looks superb..I was going to say I have the same turquoise jeans ..but no..mine aren't cropped:)
ReplyDeletesuch a pretty summer color..pops with your courtly checks..
You 3 are cute together:)
Thank you Monique. You and I must like the same colors. They were my favorite crop pants for summer.
DeleteI hope you'll get to TOTG sometime. I know you and your daughters would love it.
Debbie, Central Park is my favorite spot in New York, but I've never eaten at the Tavern on the Green. I must do that! Darling photo of you and Joe and Miss Aurora. '-) Love seeing your day in the park, eating NY cheesecake and visiting some of my favorite spots. Love, love, love the Alice sculpture and the model boat pond which is near by. I've spent many an hour reading and relaxing and exploring in Central Park. Thanks for sharing your visit and thank Colleen for taking us to Thornden Park.
ReplyDeleteSarah, we spent a good amount of time at the Alice Sculpture. Lucky you to have lived in NYC and getting to spend time exploring Central Park.
DeleteI haven't been to NYC since my parents lived on Long Island back in the late 70's and we took the train in, but never went to Central Park. I know I would love the park, but I thank you for showing me some highlights. I would be having that Bloody Mary at Tavern on the Green, as its one drink that I do love.
ReplyDeleteI love those turquoise crop pants of your, Debbie. They look great with Miss Aurora. You and Joe make such a cute couple! ❤️
Kitty, the Bloody Mary is the only drink I really enjoy. I think because it's not sweet. Thank you for your kind words about Joe and me.
Deletewhat a fantastic trip that tote took you on! I have been to NYC twice but never with Mr. PV. I think he would really like it!

DeleteHope you and Mr. PV will enjoy it as much as we do. Joe grew up in NYC and is therefore my personal tour guide :-)
DeleteOhmygosh, Debbie, best.pictures.ever! I LOVE Alice holding Miss MacKenzie Joy. Yes, she definitely needs one, but the Queen may very much dislike her choice of pattern, hahaha! All your photos are terrific. Anybody who goes to NYC really needs to go to Central Park to get a reprieve from all the otherwise craziness of its fast-paced lifestyle. It's a good normalizer. Thanks for sharing.

Oops! It was Miss Aurora, pardon me, with you in Central Park. Miss McK Joy was with Colleen (and those photos in the rose garden are just as wonderful!).
DeleteThe park is the perfect spot for the elegant and sophisticated Miss Aurora. I bet she loved lunch at Tavern on the Green the most! I know I would have folded myself up inside of Miss Aurora so I could have lunched with her!
ReplyDeleteDeb, I enjoyed your pictures of Central Park! This is the perfect example of why public areas need to be set aside now for use as parks. Can you imagine NYC without Central Park?? I love the fountains and statues and bridges too. You really found a quiet day to get great photos without a crowd everywhere! Yes, Alice would look great with a tote to take to Wonderland. I would love for you to take us to the park which Colleen found, too. Thanks for sharing. Linda
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post, Debbie! It's been quite a few years but I've been to Central Park and ate at Tavern on the Green as well. I wish I would have seen more of the park as you did. Great pics!
ReplyDeleteI love New York and Central Park. Fortunately my husband travels to the city often and our son and daughter in law live there, so I am fortunate to get to visit often. It can get unbearably hot in the summer, I am glad you found the park so refreshing. You look wonderful and refreshed throughout your day! Thank you so much for sharing over at Celebrate it Sunday!
ReplyDeleteLunch at Tavern on the Green sounds good! I love travelin with Miss Aurora!
ReplyDeleteJenna
I love Central Park and I love your pictures. They are even better with the tote in them....Christine
