Easter and Nor'Easter

The sun was shining, there was no snow on the ground, and I was excited that Spring starts next week. Now a monster storm is crippling the Northeast. It sure doesn't feel like spring is just around the corner but I had leftover cake batter from Xavier's first birthday cake so I made flower cupcakes for this springy table.

I posted the photo below on MacKenzie-Child's Facebook page, and they shared it with this cute comment.
"We're currently in the middle of the nor'easter spreading across the Finger Lakes! We must say that we had a giggle at our Hollyhock Birdhouse that's braving the snow with the rest of us. Thank you for sharing, Debbie!"

Our sweet angel just turned one (already). I made the smash cake for his party which he refused to smash!

In the 20+ years I have been growing Lenten Rose in my garden, it has only been damaged by Mother Nature twice. Last year and now this year.
This beautiful Lenten Rose was trying to bloom in my garden. I love the little freckles.

These hellebores are beauties. They come back every year, thrive in the shade and deer hate them. What's not to love. In my garden, the Lenten rose is the first to flower in early spring, around the period of Lent. It's also known as Lenten hellebore or oriental hellebore. They are excellent for bringing early color to the garden and the table.

They are a perennial that grows from 12-18" high, and the blooms usually last about two months.
Just in time for Easter and those spring bouquets, the Traveling Totes gals are pleased to announce the winner of the MacKenzie-Childs Green Flower Market Vase.

Hello, I'm Debbie.I enjoy hiking, kayaking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the Adirondack Mountains (thus Mountain Breaths). I live in Upstate NY with my supportive husband and have three precious sons..

  1. I have "battened down the hatches" and the snow has begun - this better be it for the season!! Sorry to hear your Lenten Rose won't bloom - this is crazy weather. Pretty table and adorable cake for X!

  2. That chintz vase is adorb..congrats!

Love your MC wabbit and champagne flutes..Debbie our boys had little hats like that too..he's so cute:)

I hope my seeds that took last yr of Hellebores from Terry have deep roots and survive!

  3. Your table looks stunning, Debbie. Love that bunny and you table setting. I have never heard of a Lenten Rose. What a beauty! Have a great week!

  4. Oh my goodness, your table is stunning! I came ASAP to visit when I spotted that M CH's bunny and champagne goblets. Gorgeous !

  5. We got anywhere from 8-14 inches of snow in SE Wisconsin Sunday night into Monday! I hope Stella fizzles out as she heads East. I love your MC Bunny! So cute :) Congrats to your winner, the vase is so pretty too.

  6. Xavier is so adorable. That's too funny he wouldn't smash the cake. A perfectionist in the making, lol.
Mother Nature has really played a mean joke on you guys, letting the Lenten rose bloom, and then adding insult to injury by sending Stella out to play. The flowers are beautiful - glad you took some inside to enjoy, alongside that great MC bunny.

  7. oh my goodness, your table could be in the MKC showroom, it's so adorable! So is your grandson, what a wonderful name. So sorry about your snow storm and poor little lenten rose. We are freezing down South too, where everything is in early spring bloom and mean ole Mother Nature is going to kill it...LOVE LOVE the bunny! And the pink stripe plates!

  8. Very sweet post. So sorry you are having such bad weather. Love your gorgeous tablescape. The bunny is so adorable...Loving Xavier sweet little face. Very cool about posting your photo on MC Facebook page. xo

  9. How lovely! This will help you get through the storm and cold, a little bit of spring. Adorable CC rabbit. Happy Birthday to Xavier, seems he was just born! Beautiful Lenten rose. Spring came early with blooms here too, last night was in the twenties. Hope your rose survived.
Wow, I enjoyed the photo from MC. The birdhouse is snowed in!

  10. Oh my, your little Xavier is such a cutie patootie, Debbie! Just look at him in his darling hat with those big brown eyes. How can he be one already?!
Love Your CC bunny and your champagne flutes. My oh my, would I ever love that cupcake and a piece of the birthday cake. Hope the snow melts quickly. The Lenten Rose is so beautiful. How fun that your birdhouse was commented on. Happy St. Patrick's Day! ☘

  11. Winter is hanging on with all of it's might this year. Grrrr. Easter is my favorite holiday and I love bunnies. Yours is so cute. I would love a glass of champagne now too. Lol. Maybe a mimosa.

  12. Spring really is just around the corner but Mother Nature just doesn't seem to know which corner. Loved your photos of the Lenten Rose…just lovely. And that little one, I hope he had a great birthday even without smashing the cake.

  13. I love the spring picture.. but why the monster storm came to spoil the spirit?
