We had an evening (cheese and crackers) picnic just as the sun was setting on Saturday, as we waited for the restaurant to start serving dinner at 6:30 pm. The restaurant was tending to a wedding and the bride arrived in a sea plane near this beach where I am standing. Her family owns a sea plane business near my camp and there are several pilots in the family. We were seated in the restaurant, and the sunset seemed to last for an hour.
The friendly ducks followed me on my walk on the dock to watch the sun go down. I squatted down and Joe decided we needed a picture. lol
Last evening, we had one of our favorite sides dishes made with escarole from our veggie box. Fall veggie boxes are my favorite as we start getting root vegetables, a variety of squash, potatoes, lots of lettuce, leeks, garlic and brussel sprouts.
From the Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook: Utica Greens: It's named for Utica, a city in Central New York State, which for some reason--perhaps having to do with it's large Italian population--is known for this wonderful side vegetable. Escarole can be served with a crisp topping of Parmesan cheese and bread crumbs. One taste and you'll understand why we love it.
Love the lake shots and you are so darn cute Debbie!
ReplyDeleteThank you Monique! Loved your photos from Provence.
DeleteWhat a sunset...and I like your new little friends you met on the dock! I still haven't acquired the taste for "Utica Greens" or "Greens and Beans"!!
ReplyDeleteMy son hasn't acquired the taste for Utica Greens either, and probably never will. No greens for him!
DeleteThe Utica Greens recipe looks fantastic! :D
ReplyDeleteLook at the ducks! It looks like it's cool where you are. It's just getting to the point around here where we can eat al fresco again and enjoy our outdoor spaces.
xo,
Ricki Jill
Our weather is usually nippy in the evenings in the fall, but this year has been different. We are still eating outdoors, even though it gets dark so early.
DeleteThe salad looks positively delish. Love the pic of you and your cute duck friends!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place you have the luxury of calling your own! The salad looks like something I could eat every day and never tire of. Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteSuch cute photos! I can only imagine wearing a jacket, we are still in the upper 80s!
ReplyDeleteI am mesmerized by your sunset photos, Debbie. They've taken me away to a beautiful setting this morning.
ReplyDeleteDon't you look adorable in that cute jacket?! Your duck friends seem to think so, too.
Utica greens look like something I'd enjoy! Happy early weekend to you and Joe! xx
What a glorious sunset and photos of you and your Duckie friends, Debbie! Weather has been all over the place here but we have had some beautiful early evenings outside as well. Almost 80 here tomorrow! I've made similar greens with escarole and loved it!
