It was time to give the front porch urns a makeover for Christmas. Our local bowling alley gives away unwanted bowling balls, and the nice man even offered to help me put them in my vehicle. I told him what I was using the bowling balls for, and that seemed to get him in the mood for the holiday season. At the end of this post, there is a photo that I took of the urn that inspired me to make this.
I picked a day that was fairly warm to spray paint the bowling balls, and found this perfect piece of cardboard to use so I wouldn't get spray paint all over the fence. I also chose a day when Mr. Mountain Breaths wasn't home because he loves to supervise when I have spray paint in my hand.
Once I spray painted the bowling balls, I sprinkled some red Martha Stewart glitter on them while they were still glossy. Once dry, I placed the ball on fresh greenery in the urns. Note: The urns are fairly deep, so I placed a Folger's coffee container in the urn to raise the ball up. I also put some foam under the ball because I had it on hand. The wind will never knock this over! I think the ball weighs at least 12 pounds.
Here is the urn that inspired me in the Grandinroad catalog. My urns are larger which I like better. Their ball is made of foam, and I love the little deer sitting by the urn.
