It's that time of year when I start thinking about my garden. When I opened The Cooks Garden seed catalog and saw this beautiful photo of Romanesco broccoli, I could not keep my eyes off it. It's an Italian heirloom, and a work of art. Each packet has 130 seeds, so I'll share the seeds with my fellow gardeners. It's a new variety, and I'm willing to give it a chance in my garden.
The seed catalogs are a gentle reminder that our winter activities will eventually cease, and we'll be seeing green instead of white. Yesterday, we went to Whetstone Gulf State Park which is built in and around a three-mile-long gorge cut into the eastern edge of the Tug Hill Plateau in New York. It's about an hour from our home. The gorge is one of the most spectacular scenic vistas east of the Rocky Mountains.
The snow did not let up all day, so my hood came in very handy.
For those of you may like to try snowshoeing for exercise in the winter months, you can do it in your own backyard if you have the land available. We can drive 10 minutes from our house to a local park or golf course to snowshoe. If you can walk, you can showshoe. In the picture below, you will see I have the aluminum showshoes with crampons that dig into the snow and ice for traction. I use ski poles, but you don't have to.
Snowshoeing is a peaceful adventure, and a nice way to spend quality time with family and friends.
As much as I love winter, please Hurry Up Spring so I can grow some broccoli!
I am joining the weekly Seasonal Sundays and Monday Mosaic. You can visit both and see what others are sharing on their blogs.
Thank you so much for stopping by!!
