I picked up a lovely book at the library, Tabletops by Barbara Milo. The tabletop above was taken in my home with the Waterlogue App on my iPad. I am joining Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.
"Setting a stunning table need not be confined to special occasions. As renowned author and designer Barbara Milo Ohrbach brilliantly demonstrates, any meal can be made special with the proper visual approach. The ingredients need not be fine china and matching silver; the real key is to develop a creative look for your table."
Whether you are having a party, sitting down with friends and family, or celebrating a holiday, the pleasures of eating at a beautiful table help to make the meal truly memorable.
I am sharing a quick and easy tabletop, and it won't take more than 10 minutes. If your garden is overflowing with large hosta plants like mine, wrap your forks and knives in hosta leaves tied with ribbon. I also used a large hosta leaf as a placemat for a dessert plate.
We had coffee and dessert on the deck, and it didn't take any effort to set the table.
A close up shot of the fork and knife wrapped in the hosta leaf.
While I was photographing, Mr. Mountain Breaths came up with his tabletop version. Not kidding you, he did this on his own. Now you see why we get along so well.
Love the "heart" beet.
The centerpiece was made using a casserole dish and flowers from my garden. In the book, the author discusses how to choose the right container for every event.
The hosta leaf looks like a heart in this photo :-)
Thank you for stopping by!

Love it!
All my best from Austria and sunny days

Kudos to Joe - boy, he is quite a clever guy!! I don't think I have ever seen hosta leaves quite so large! Glad you are enjoying your new wicker on the deck!
ReplyDeleteYou and Joe being teachers have that clever gene. The wicker is so comfortable!
DeleteHow fun Debbie! Cute tablescape and I love the heart-beet:@)
ReplyDeleteHow pretty is that, Debbie, both yours and Joe's!! The hosta leaves make the most gorgeous placemats. I tried to grow them, but the bunnies ate them. I love the heart beet and the colorful plate of veggies. Your container filled with flowers makes a beautufl centerpiece. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteSuper creative and cute! Love that your hubby contributed!

DeleteI see you finished your wicker, looks good! Mike says wicker makes him itch, but too bad, I love mine! The slugs are eating my hosta, the deer everything else, it's a wicked summer in the garden! Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteKathleen, the free wicker set is getting a lot of use this summer! You have some beautiful wicker pieces, and it looks great with your house. I hope you have a very nice weekend!
DeleteIf ever there was a fun post, this is IT!
ReplyDeleteRamon & I just planted about 10 more hostas in our yard and are looking forward to the bounty in the coming years. We planted the kind that will yield these monster-size leaves, so don't be surprised if you see this idea pop up on my blog in a year or so! :-) I really love them both as placemats and as flatware wraps. Just precious with the gauzy ribbon bows!
It is wild that your husband chimed in. Love it when the men are strong enough in their manhood to put their ideas front & center. Makes you just love 'em more! The "beeting" heart is one of my favorite features!
Ms. Ohrbach had some really terrific ideas! Thanks for sharing, and have a beautiful weekend!
Glad you got the hosta with the monster leaves so now you can have placemats too! I just bought another one of Ms. Ohrbach's books "The Scented Room" and can't wait to read it later. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
DeleteWow Debbie ~ love all of your MacKenzie~Childs tableware!
