Tales of the Traveling Tote Swap - The Taste of Southwest CT

I had some winter therapy with some of the Tales of the Traveling Tote bloggers that participated in a swap called "The Taste Of....." where we exchanged gifts that included items of our area. My swap partner was Linda at More Fun Less Laundry
Linda is from southwest CT and sent a fabulous gift box.

I had no idea that PEZ are made in CT. The factory, museum and shop would be a fun place to visit! I'm sure you remember those crunchy little rectangles of sugar you may have consumed as a child! Did you know that PEZ is an abbreviation of the German word for Peppermint: PfeffErminZ?  I chuckled when Linda sent me the PEZ as it reminded me of a co-worker that has a Pez collection of 700 that she's accumulated over the years and keeps quite a few of them on display in her office.
Gingerbitz is very popular in New Canaan, CT, owned by a husband and wife team, and the wife started baking as a child in her Suzy Homemaker oven. So did I, and should have opened a sweet shoppe!! :-) I would love to know her secret gingerbread recipe. Yum!
Thank you Linda for my very first piece of Juliska!  A few members of our tote group have a passion for the dishes, and I have long admired it. I love this little candy/nut dish!
I am familiar with the Terrain store through bloggers, and lucky Linda has one close to her home. Terrain started out as Anthropologie's house and garden shop and the one near Linda has a cafe with excellent food. Linda sent me a recipe for white bean and arugula soup, and I have planted the arugula seeds in a pot. Soup will be on the menu in May (I hope).

In case you want to stop by and see what the other pairs who participated each swapped, they are as follows:
Patti at Pandora's Box and Emily at The French Hutch
Ricki Jill at The Sketchy Reader and Jackie at Purple Chocolat Home
Linda P at Life and Linda and Jenna at The Painted Apron
Rita at Panoply and Sarah at Hyacinths for the Soul

One more thing before you go, I spotted some Banana Oatmeal muffins on IG and have been nibbling on these at my desk this week. Now I need some of Sarah's lemon pie!
Until next time, have a wonderful week!

Hello, I'm Debbie.I enjoy hiking, kayaking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the Adirondack Mountains (thus Mountain Breaths). I live in Upstate NY with my supportive husband and have three precious sons..

  1. Fantastic goodie box, Deb! I didn't know Pez originated in CT either. A Juliska piece certainly has this dish lover's eyes glazed over, not to mention what all those sweets are doing for me! We've only visited Terrain while traveling in the NE, but that soup looks to be just the antedote for all the sweets. Great gifts, all!

  2. Fun box..w/ local delicacies..she knows you well:) And cute packaging..Your muffins look good!Happy week to you.

  3. How much fun! And I learned something this morning about PEZ! I would LOVE to visit a terrain store. It's my favorite online store. I enjoyed seeing all your fun goodies from the beautiful state of Connecticut!

  4. What fabulous and thoughtful gifts you received from Linda! The cookies are speaking to me, Debbie, and I'm sure you and Joe enjoyed every last bite. How fun to grow some arugula and then make some soup with the recipe. This swap sounded like such fun!

  5. Such fun about the PEZ! I lived in New Canaan until I was 12! Linda packaged everything so beautifully! I love Terrain and Juliska!! My daughter has a lot of Juliska things that I'm always drooling over... This has been so interesting, seeing and learning about everyone's local favorites!

  6. PEZ from CT! Who would have thought! I always think of PEZ around holidays as those little plastic dispensers would be included in our Christmas stockings or Easter baskets. They have been around a long time!!!! And I adore gingerbread cookies or cake! The Juliska piece is lovely. I'm one of those girls who admires this company and their beautiful ceramics.
Linda put together a fabulous swap box. What fun! I'm going to try your muffins for a group I'm hosting on Thursday. Yummy!

  7. Hi Deb! So glad you are enjoying our local goodies. During the summer there would be many fresh baked goods from farms, but during the winter it's much harder to find local goods. We have a fabulous gelato shop downtown, but that wasn't going into the box! Your co-worker must go to the PEZ museum if she is a collector, because they have a wonderful collection and explain the history of the designs. Those muffins look delicious!!! Our group should do this again as I am having so much fun seeing what everyone sent. And of course I love my package from you! Linda

  8. Such a fun box of goodies from Linda. The Juliska piece is gorgeous. I have always admired that company. The permission so cute and has quite the history. What lovely muffins you made. The MKC baking dish is so cute. How fun this exchange has been. Have a great week ahead.

  9. I buy PEZ fro Carter all the time! I chuckle because it takes longer to fill the container than it does to eat the candy!! Great swap gifts!

  10. What a fun gift exchange! I just sent my nephew a picture of some new Pez that I knew weren't in his collection. He used to keep it in this old fashioned gun cabinet that was built in. The Juliska is beautiful too. I just had so much fun seeing everything and thinking what else I could have sent!

I'm so happy you decided to stop by my blog. Please leave a comment as I enjoy hearing from each and every one of you!
