We are barreling towards the official end of summer - Labor Day weekend. I've been enjoying heirloom tomatoes in Caprese salad, and did some preserving as well.
One of our local farms has really stepped up it's game, and is having some wonderful sunflower events. Photos is all I am interested in, but you should see the beautiful engagement, high school graduation 2021, and other special occasion photos that are coming from this farm.
It was fairly dark when I took this photo, only because I couldn't wait until daylight to try it. I had an abundance of Swiss chard and had saved this recipe from the Garden Web when I was a member. The recipe is inspired by Patricia Wells' trattoria in which she writes: "This savory snack is a favorite Mediterranean specialty, and vegetable pies such as this one can be found at pastry and snack shops in many parts of Italy." We did see these everywhere in Italy. It's a very simple torte with a crisp pastry crust, but not necessarily as flaky (a trade-off for being so fast and easy).
I took this photo at the cooperative extension as I was enamored by the color.
The co-op was also growing tomatillos.
Tea in the garden? I always thought I had to have a granddaughter to have tea parties, but my grandson Xavier proved me wrong. He loves having tea parties with Grandma and Grandpa in the garden. I would show you the photo of us having tea, but he's a true boy and is making a face. He is a comedian when you try to take a photo of him. I wouldn't have it any other way.
The beginning of the day at Rocky Mountain near our camp. We've been wanting to climb this mountain to watch the sun rise all summer. What a way to start the day.

Great summer experiences, Debbie - all! The torte looks terrific, but that sunrise view....breathtaking! Mason jars are in shortage in our area.....no surprise.

ReplyDeleteI always love when I see subtle changes that fall will definitely make an appearance. Later here than there I'm sure. Your summer garden has been lovely. The sunflower field is glorious. We have one here but they didn't plant as many as years past. Little boys are notorious for acting silly in from to the camera. Hard to get one. ReplyDeleteYour photos are absolutely breathtaking. That Dahlia!!! Gorgeous! I love reading about the tea parties. I miss having them with the girls, but maybe one day I'll have a grandchild to continue the tradition! I bet the turmeric spiced tea makes you feel very good!
