This and That #1

Happy Fall Friends!

We recently returned from Estes, CO and Rocky Mountain National Park. Everywhere you look, there is a view. Most of my bucket list vacations include a view, and we were happy to finally visit Colorado. Fall brings clear blue skies and crisp air with occasional snow, and the gold rush of the beautiful aspen trees. We rented a cabin for a week, and Joe especially loved the jacuzzi.

Dream Lake
Chapel on the Rock in Allenspark, CO
Sunrise in Rocky Mountain National Park
Alpine Summit - over 12,000 feet in elevation
Elk at our cabin in Estes, CO
Setting up for a wedding at the famous Stanley Hotel
Beautiful aspen trees
So many trails, even after hiking for one week, we didn't get to do all of them
We left Estes at 6 a.m. and drove on Trail Ridge Road to Grand Lake. We stopped for several sunrise photos, and this was one of my favorite parts of the trip. Grand Lake is wonderful, and they closed the road the following day (for the season) due to snow. There are no guardrails, and we are over 12,000 feet in elevation. I can't imagine driving in a snow storm.
We saw this cow moose with her calf while hiking.
After so much time spent at home, wanderlust has hit us all pretty hard. It was our first trip to Colorado, and what a beautiful world we live in.
I planted 10 rose bushes this year after seeing the beautiful roses my niece has at her home in California. Why did I wait so long? I don't use pesticides in my garden, and the rose pedals are lovely on beet salad. This was taken yesterday, our weather in October has been a little off. Even the lilacs are blooming again.
Some of you will recall that my mom carved over 100 foam pumpkins while she was alive, so every year I put out an assortment. My entire family has them, and this would make mom very happy!
Hard to believe that it's almost November. My wheels are turning since I am hosting Thanksgiving this year. I played around with dishes this week.

 Thanks for stopping by!

  2. So fun seeing your trip pics, a beautiful time of year to visit. Your salad looks so pretty with the addition of your rose petals, I often use mine in presentations. It's always nice to hear about your mom's pumpkins and see them displayed. Pretty table setting for your Thanksgiving table. Happy Halloween.....

  3. Home, sweet home! But while you’re out there in the midst of all that beauty…whoa! What an insanely wild ride!!!!!! So great to see what all is right here on our shores tucked here and there. We have visited Silverthorne and other parts of Colorado on several occasions. Beautiful part of our country! We were stranded there once with all the snow and I-70 shut down. Never saw anything quite like it! Welcome home
just in time to enjoy those neat pumpkins your Mom made. That has GOT to be a comforting welcome home gift in and of itself.🎃🎃🎃🎃

  8. You did get some beautiful photos, Debbie! I've driven in the Colorado mountains in both summer and winter and it can be scary even when the roads are in good condition, especially when you are on the outside of the road looking down. I love the rose petals! How lucky you are to still have roses blooming. I would have had some rose buds blooming soon were in not for the hard frost we had last night :(
