It's been a strangely mild fall in the Northeast where we live.. Making soup in the fall and winter is a must for me, and this Blue Hubbard Squash Soup has been in my "to try" file, Each year I add a large blue hubbard squash to our fall decor and then use it for soup. To give you an idea of the ingredients. The link will take you to the recipe.
1 large Blue Hubbard squash
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (2 inch) piece ginger, peeled and minced
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 pinch red pepper flakes
3 cups vegetable broth
1 (14 ounce) can full-fat coconut milk
1 tablespoon lemon juice
We planted garlic at the end of October. Joe takes care of planting bulbs and garlic :-)
My mom would love this. Halloween was her favorite holiday besides Christmas. In this photo are my two sisters, my niece and nephew and their family,
If you have been a reader for a while, you may recall that my mom always made almond paste cookies for Christmas.. It is my most requested cookie recipe, and it's that time of year when we buy our supplies and get ready for the cookie assembly line again. November started with golds and is ending with red.. The photo below is of my next door neighbor's delivery of red berries for the beautiful Christmas wreaths and floral arrangements he makes for customers.
This is our granddaughter Claire, and she is very stylish. My daughter-in-law knits quickly, and makes her all sorts of sweaters, hats, dresses, etc. For Thanksgiving, she will be wearing a mustard color knitted dress.
My dear friend Dawn sent me this photo of a wooden moose painted in checks. (It's a small world since I happen to know the person that painted it) Our moose (see below) is at our camp (photo from last winter), and it was suggested that we paint it in checks :-) I'm currently working on that.
I was told I could share these cute recipes with you. They said “The idea is to count your blessings, not calories” I'm definitely making more hot cocoa bombs this year. They were loved. I'm thinking of making the pomegranate sangria for Thanksgiving.
Wishing everyone who celebrates a very Happy Thanksgiving. I am looking forward to hosting my family.

Wow, your family really goes all out for Halloween costuming! Claire is adorable, and I love her fashion statement sweater. Your almond paste cookies look absolutely divine. I love almond! We are still enjoying leaves on trees, albeit rust. A good friend told me a farmer's omen is that the longer leaves remain, the harder the winter. I hope that's just a legend!
