The zucchinis and cucumbers are coming fast and furious, and the Celebrity tomatoes are almost ready to be harvested and be canned. I'm looking forward to making this soup that my friend loved in Europe Salmorego. I used four Earth Boxes this year for my tomato plants, nasturtiums, basil, cleome and a few other flowers and I am quite impressed. I just harvested all the basil so I could use one of the boxes for broccoli plants that I started from seed.
One of our summer goals is to try a new state park each week. We get into the parks for free by going during the week (any NYS resident 62 and older gets in for free just by showing a drivers license). We love it since there are no crowds and we can walk for miles along the beach and trails for exercise. This photo was taken at Southwick Beach on Lake Ontario and is our favorite so far.
Occasionally Joe will spend time in the kitchen making what he likes to eat. Muffuletta is one of his specialties, and something he learned about when we were in New Orleans.
I planted a pink currant bush last year, and the currants are so sweet and tasty.
Our granddaughter Claire is turning two in August, and I have the pleasure of babysitting for her occasionally. I found these cute boots on sale, and she insisted on wearing them (they are two sizes too big at the moment).
The glads reminded me that it's almost mid August and I should finish my July blog post. I'm an August baby and I associate sunflowers and glads with my birthday.

ReplyDeleteLovely opening photo Deb, and looks like you are having a bountiful crop of vegetables and flowers. I love how you take advantage of visiting your state parks for walks and hiking. A great way to get your exercise! Love Joe's beautiful Muffuletta and it looks so pretty on the MC bird bath ( I have that too and use it for cakes). Claire is growing so fast, I know you enjoy the days you get to baby sit. Such sweet pics of her, darling boots. I think of you and Joe often, so happy we got to meet in NYC.........

Cute boots on Claire. My granddaughter is an August baby like you and we are looking forward to her first birthday. I've made 4 zucchini loaves and think I'm about finished with that (although family members who receive it love it). Pretty flowers, and I love your idea of visiting the state parks! I've enjoyed seeing all the photos. Happy for you!
ReplyDeleteAdorable boots for Claire!! I would be wearing them, too!! Have you been to Green Lakes State Park and walked the 2 lakes? It's John's favorite place to golf and one of our favorite spots for lunch (Yard's Grille). You can also rent row boats!
