This and That - September

Hey there, friends! I've started spending more time in the kitchen now that fall is approaching. Many years ago, I saved an apple bread recipe from the Penzey's catalog (I always looked forward to the catalog as it had many good recipes from readers in it). At one time I was passionate about receiving catalogs in the mail, and now I toss the majority of them without even looking. Well anyways, I brought this apple bread to a get together near my camp and they enjoyed the bread. The hostess was happy she could keep the tray.
I'm pretty proud of this sunflower that I grew from seed. It is the only one that survived the wildlife.
Also very happy with the performance of this four foot tall verbena that I grew for the first time after seeing it doing so wonderfully in Maine last August.
The elephant ears never cease to amaze me, and they are taller than my grandchildren.
Kudos to the cleome plant that I grew in an Earthbox this year. They have never been this tall in my garden, and the cleomes that I planted in the group were only half the size.
I spotted this book while staying at a B & B in Vermont this summer and decided to add it to my collection. It's fabulous with so many themed charcuterie plates to give me inspiration no matter what the occasion is.
This charcuterie board is nice for "game day". I made it to serve four people, and of course it included chicken wings.
This charcuterie board served eight women with leftovers.
The nasturtiums are still going strong so everything is being garnished with them, and I love putting them in salads. The flourless chocolate torte was a favorite amongst our "garden girls" dinner.

Yesterday I picked up my last summer harvest from the farm where I have been a member for 14 years. They sell a subscription (CSA - Community Support Agriculture). I just signed up for the Fall Harvest which will be for five weeks. I go every Monday and love not having to get any veggies from the grocery store until December. Farm to Table is my passion.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Your garden is impressive Deb, love your sunflower! I also love the way you wrapped the apple bread for your hostess, so pretty and so thoughtful! Charcuterie boards are always a hit, so many possibilities~ do you know the Reluctant Entertainer? Her blog is full of great recipes and theme for just about any charcuterie board you can imagine, you might want to check it out.

  3. Isn't it funny how, after retirement, you don't need all those catalogs anymore (particularly for clothing). Your charcuterie trays looks great, and that book looks like a real winner. Your CSA participation is a worthy commitment to both the farmers and yourself.

  4. How wonderful every looks, Debbie. I’m impressed with your beautiful charcuterie trays. The book must be full of inspiration. Your plants are performing wonderfully. My elephant ears started out great, but I’m not sure if it was too hot or too much shade. It was exciting to see the bulb sprout, though. You certainly enjoy your CSA participation.
I want a taste of that apple bread! I’ll bet the hostess was thrilled with it and the pretty tray! Enjoy your week! ❤️
