Sunny Wren Sanctuary - Baby Birds Update

Happy Summer! If you look close, you can see a wren peeking out the hole of the birdbox. The Sunny Wren Sanctuary was busy on Father's Day as the adult wrens were feeding their growing babies continuously. I wish I had their energy! The wrens started nesting on Mother's Day, and the juveniles fledged on Father's Day.

The adult wrens started nesting for a SECOND time two days later!

If you're a garlic fan and familiar with growing garlic, you will understand the excitement of removing the "scapes" and using them for cooking. I typically make garlic scape pesto and add it to any dish that calls for garlic, but you can also chop them, fry them, pickle them, etc. The farmer's markets sell them and it's a beautiful sight to see the scapes piled onto the market tables.
I started quite a few of my plants from seed in March, and this is a morning glory that is deep purple and has a white edge.

Here's a recipe that I'm happy to share because it is so good. I add homemade croutons to the salad, and it's a favorite lunch or side salad for dinner.

We are having a heat wave, and I recently spent a day with my family celebrating a birthday at the Enchanted Forest/Water Safari near our camp. This is a fun place to be when the weather is hot.
An updated photo of grandson Xavier. I've discovered that eight is a fun age and they are so smart. He's our first grandchild.
Father's Day was spent with our gang, and I made strawberry shortcake for dessert.

Almost every day I'm having my morning coffee in the Sunny Wren Sanctuary. Then I go to the gym for 90 minutes.

Be well! Be happy!

  5. How sweet the wrens nested on Mother's Day and fledged on Father's Day! I have wrens also - a lot! I think we have various nests - one in my holly bush and one in the pole that runs alongside the utility pole for underground wiring (not so good). Your garden as seen on FB is outstanding. I can see why you named it wren sanctuary. It's incredibly hot here, and I'm hoping for rain tomorrow. I'm having to water every single day, and soaking perennials every five days or so.
    Xavier is a handsome dude!
Have fun in these summer days!

  6. How fun to watch the nesting and fledging! We love watching the wildlife in our yard too. We had a cardinal family build a nest in one of the big clematis on the fence this year! The water park looks great, especially on a hot day. X is getting so big! Our youngest GS is 8 too. It's a great age!

  8. I had a family of wrens in one of my birdhouses, too. It’s fun to watch them go in and out. The pesto looks so tasty and the dressings sounds so good.
Xavier is so cute and growing up so quickly. Happy Summer!
