Cheers to the summer weather we had this week! Spring is a new beginning in the garden, and everything suddenly burst into color with the warm temperatures, humidity and rain. The strawberry fields opened early this year, so it was time to make a strawberry rhubarb pie, Freckled Strawberry lemonade, and smoothies. There's always something going on in the garden, and I happened to be in the kitchen when this little cutie stopped by to munch on sunflower petals. He was very gentle with the blooms and only ate one :-)
FUN FACT - Did you know that the Pantone Color of the Year is Peach Fuzz? Every year, Pantone selects a color to inspire home & garden trends. This year, they chose 'Peach Fuzz'.
“In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for
closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern
elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and
effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.” ~ Leatrice Eiseman (Executive Director, Pantone Color
Institute)
Nurture your senses and create a welcome sanctuary by adding
some peach blooms to your garden this year. I found a gorgeous peach foxglove plant at the nursery and will save some seeds.
"Sunny Wren Sanctuary" is where I have morning coffee and read in the afternoon. The wrens have been nesting in our bird house for as long as I can remember, so Joe named our garden "Sunny Wren Sanctuary".

The farm has gorgeous colored eggs, and frittatas are very popular here. I keep it quick and easy by using one sheet of puff pastry in a cast iron pan. I use six eggs, 1/4 cup milk, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 2 cups of chopped scallions, salt and pepper. Drop in a handful of cherry tomatoes and lay a few scallions over the top. Bake at 375 for 30 minutes (or until set).
If you love cilantro like I do (I know that some do not care for it), then this is for you. It's my own "recipe", and we call it Cilantro Salsa and use it on tortilla chips and sometimes on chicken. You put the following ingredients in a food processor. I pick large quantities of cilantro at the organic farm.
Scallion (1)
1/2 red Pepper
Lemon or lime juice
Evoo
One clove of Garlic
Nice big bunch of Cilantro
Salt
Look at these beautiful Showy Pink Lady Slippers we find in the bog each year. They are in the orchid family, and typically bloom around Father's Day. So we always stop to take photos on our way to our camp.
I saved the best for last :-) Here's a clever way to elevate your spare toilet paper. I saw it on IG, and they used two paper napkins laid side by side to make a large piece. Then you roll and tuck. I was going to wrap all three rolls, but figured one was enough.

Deb
Deb, oh how I love your garden posts! You sunny blooms make me smile, especially with the darling bird feasting. Great photo capture! I just came in from the garden, watering and deadheading. It's such a peaceful time for me. I love time musing in the garden. We even have a nice gentle breeze with temps in the low 80s. Perfect for me! Sunny Wren Sanctuary is a wonderful name! Wrens are fun to watch. Enjoy your summer days, my friend!
ReplyDeleteI love your sunny wren sanctuary. The Goldfinch loved my zinnias and coneflowers last year, but when we lived at our former house, they were all over the su flowers. I made a few melamine plates on Shutterfly from the photos. Your garden looks Heavenly. Deb!
ReplyDeleteYour garden is lovely Deb and I see the little wren loves it too, especially the sunflowers. I think your cilantro salsa recipe sounds delicious. Happy summer dear Deb...........
ReplyDeleteThe cute bird on the sunflower! Impossible to grow here..just rabbit food:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely sanctuary and I love the name. Those sweet wild orchids are so pretty and so is your yard. This is just the prettiest time of year. ♥ We are going to be having very warm temps this week and next! I think I'll actually have to water my garden which is crazy after all the rain we had last week.
ReplyDeleteYou two certainly have green thumbs! Enjoy your little sanctuary!
ReplyDeleteAwww Debbie, such a sweet post. Love the sweet little bird that just ate one petal. Your garden looks lovely. The lady slippers are so special. I love cilantro, Paul doesn't so I shall indulge. The Sunny Wren Sanctuary is a lovely name. Happy gardening and the coming summer.
ReplyDeleteThe Sunny Wren Sanctuary is the perfect name for your lovely garden and your wonderful photos capture so well while it was named a sanctuary. I like the idea of making a frittata with a puff pastry crust, it sounds great. Karen (Back Road Journal)
