Welcome to the spring edition of the Tales of the Traveling Tote. This covers the time frame of March through May and the spring blooms have been fabulous. I have picked up several gardening tips through many years of blogging, and added a Kwanza cherry tree (Linda Green) and Prairie Fire crabapple tree (Susan McAuliffe) to our property over ten years ago.
Miss Aurora (my traveling tote) wanted to be part of a once in a lifetime event. On April 8th our camp was in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse. This was the first time the Adirondacks have been in the direct path of totality. I created a time capsule to be opened on May 1, 2079 – the next total solar eclipse here in New York. I’ve included news clippings, accounts of the experience, photos and a weather report.
I'm glad I could share this event with my family. My dad built the camp when I was eight years old, and we hope the grandchildren will be able to view the next total solar eclipse in 2079. Xavier will be 62 :-)

I viewed the eclipse from my kayak, and we celebrated this fascinating experience most of the day.
Next was the Mackenzie-Childs warehouse sale in Union Springs, New York. I had to watch my tote carefully at the sale since all eyes were on it lol :-) I met up with Patti who was working at the sale.
I wonder if anyone bought this Patience Brewster reindeer.
The gardens are always lovely at MacKenzie-Childs, and the tulips were blooming their hearts out.

I'll leave you with this as a thank you for reading this far :-) Don't ever hesitate to try something new as we absolutely loved this recipe Roasted Rhubarb Salmon. The rhubarb sauce is such a pretty color, and since it was a rainy day, I decorated it before serving it with the salmon.

Deb, I love the fact that you recounted the eclipse. It was definitely an event worth time capsule for your area. How cool that Xavier will be close to our ages when the next one rolls around!

Our beach house is our "family camp" and it is such a joy to see my grandchildren love it as much as myself and my children. It so nice you and Patti can get together, especially in Aurora! ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. All your photos are gorgeous and I’m always attracted to “eye candy” with the bright colors. That first photo of the bird house caught my eye. I have a book house that I’m working on - it needs to be decorated and I’m drawn to how the roof looks. I just might do that for my roof.

Three months of fun times! I wish I lived closer to an MC sale :) Although it could be very dangerous - LOL. Love your photos of the you and Joe enjoying the total eclipse. We just had a slight darkening of light but nothing significant. You were lucky!

Deb I love the Wildflowers and Rosy Check! such fun additions. So glad you got the total eclipse. It really was an amazing experience. We thought we were going to be completely cloudy, but there was just a skiff of clouds. It really is something to celebrate and it looks like you did a great job. How fun to create a time capsule!
