I love this time of year, but the chill in the air came rather quickly and we are still getting used to the cooler temperatures. Pretty soon I won't have any pretty flowers to pick from my garden.
October has brought us the Northern Lights and beautiful sunsets. When I went to the dentist and local library this week, they had vases of beautiful dahlias on the counter. Gifted by patrons from their home gardens so of course it made me smile. The flower frogs I brought back from a recent trip to Maine are a lot of fun to play with, and I have been easily amused now that I am retired :-)
I was able to get a good haul of Salmon Milk cap mushrooms from our friend's Christmas Tree Farm. These mushrooms grow near pine trees, and are tasty fried in butter, garlic, salt, pepper and thyme. I made a delicious side dish with homemade gnocchi and the chanterelles. We also made mushroom pizza.
Today I am planting Narcissus, Fritillaria and Red Giant Allium and Joe is planting his garlic.
Salted Caramel Apple Snickers cake, you will find the recipe with beautiful photos at Half Baked Harvest.
I haven't been posting recipes unless they are in the mind-blowing category.
I made this cake for my sister's birthday a while back and we still talk about it.
Take a walk, enjoy the fall, then bake!

Debbie, Life is Good! I love all your activities! That flower frog from Maine is so unique, love the arrangement you made for it.
ReplyDeleteWe got out yesterday for a day trip in the New River Park & Preserve, then I had J last night. A busy, tiring day! I'm hoping to plant my pansies on Monday (fingers crossed for delivery), so I'll be pulling summer annuals this weekend.
Debbie, love your fresh flowers and the cute flower frog from Maine. My favorite kind of travel sussie. How fun to experience the Northern Lights. I saw Michael Lee posting photos. Amazing that she sees them down in TN. Glad you are enjoying the cool temps. We are expecting a small cool front Tuesday. It will be greated with delight. Love caramel, so I'll check out the recipe. Thanks and Happy Fall!
ReplyDeleteChilly here also and yesterday we had lots of rain, which we needed. Those little vases are so darned cute as well as your manicure. I can see what looks like a fern painted on one finger in the photo of your hand around the mushroom basket :)
ReplyDeleteIt all looks fabulous, from flowers to food, great cozy moments!
ReplyDeleteWow, busy you. The flowers are lovely. It is time for flannel. There is a chill in the air her nights and mornings. The snickers cake looks delicious and so pretty. How fun to pick your own chanterelles.
