This and That December

As much as I enjoy Christmas, I was still enjoying our beautiful Fall. So the tree is finally up and fluffed, the lights are plugged in (most of them still work), and we started adding five boxes of huge red ball ornaments that I got at Hobby Lobby last January at 90% off.

My last CSA pickup included a Winter Sweet squash, it is a blue-ish grey colored pumpkin-looking squash and is a new vegetable for our farm. It has won taste tests for its sweetness and depth of flavor. The flavor improves after 2 to 5 months of storage. They were harvested in September, so they're at the two month mark, and the flavor should keep improving in storage. As with all winter squashes, keep an eye on them and if there is any "bad spot" forming, then bake right away.  The "bad spots" spread quickly and degrade the fruit.
The farm is taking a one year sabbatical in 2025. We just celebrated their 20 year anniversary this summer, and they are looking forward to being able to travel in 2025. They are in their mid 40's and have worked so hard to get to this point. I've been a member for 18 years so they are like family.
I love making cranberry apple butter during the holiday season, and the bonus is that you don't have to peel the apples. It makes great gifts, and if you have the ceramic yogurt containers, they are the perfect size if you are gifting.
Holiday Cranberry Apple Butter recipe here

Apples, cranberries, cinnamon, cloves, fresh ginger, brown sugar and vanilla extract or vanilla paste. So Yummy
I used some of the holiday butter to make Palmier's. So easy to make with only four ingredients. Puff pastry sheet, cranberry apple butter, granulated sugar and cinnamon.  Recipe here
We just returned from a holiday trip to New York City to visit family, and the city is sparkling. Christmas is coming! We love the hustle and bustle in the city in December.
We always enjoy a visit to the beloved Lotte New York Palace in Midtown Manhattan. I think it's the most iconic hotel, and a Madison Avenue jewel. They serve delicious hot cocoa in the courtyard.
It's our favorite tree for a Christmas photo.
Always fun to check out the Union Square Holiday Market. They had over 100 vendors and beautiful holiday wreaths and dried florals.
We had dinner at the new mushroom restaurant, Third Kingdom and loved it.
And our visit to New York City wouldn't be complete without a trip to Rockeller Plaza and seeing the enormous Christmas tree.

Right after Thanksgiving, our weather changed from beautiful fall weather to a winter wonderland (I was not ready) so it was time to organize the clothing closet and get some winter outfits ready. Top 5 winter outfit ideas

Happy Holidays!
