MacKenzie-Childs Barn Sale 2018 - The Haul

A quick post to show you "the haul" before I head to work.  I was very disciplined, and only bought items I would be using on a regular basis. In the photo above, I love the two round vases for everyday flowers from the garden. The size is perfect, and two is better than one. The wine chiller will be used next weekend for Joe's retirement party I am hosting for family at my camp. A little MKC in the woods is a nice touch. The ribbon is always a must, and the little hook will be used to hold my sun hat and a tote bag once Joe finishes painting our entry way. And who doesn't need an insulated winner carrier, and only $10 at the barn sale. I bought a few for gifts as well.  The picture frame will be used for a photo from our Northern Italy trip in September. 

 Barn Sale treasures and meeting people that have love and passion for MKC is always the highlight of the MacKenzie-Childs Barn Sale. Some of my blog friends have expressed interest in attending in 2019, and I sure hope they do. How long was the line this year? I went on Thursday, arrived at 2 pm and waited for one hour and 10 minutes. We were checked out quickly, just in time for dinner at the Aurora Inn with Sarah and our friend Tami who drove two hours just to meet Sarah and me.

off with. Of all the barn sales I have attended, Theresa was our best "line buddy" ever. We hope to keep in touch. 

While I was standing in line, Colleen from the Finger Lakes recognized me from Instagram and introduced herself. Loved meeting Colleen, and we are looking forward to next year's barn sale. 

The furniture tent was about the only quiet area at the barn sale so we decided to relax for a few minutes and someone offered to take our photo. The sunflower chairs are adorable.

Each barn sale, Joe asks me to stand by the pond for the requisite photo after we check out.

Did I tell you that Sarah came all the way from Austin, TX to the barn sale?

 These fun ladies from down South (I think) were relaxing in the courtyard after the sale, so I plopped down next to them.

Last year I met the fun (and famous) N'Awlins ladies (Cynthia and her two daughters), and I asked them to give me just some of their stamina. They attend the barn sale all four days, and shop till they drop. They also camped out in their Mardis Gras tent on Wednesday evening so they could get into the barn early on Thursday morning. They were numbers 32-34 (or something like that). Very lovely ladies, and I enjoyed chatting with them again this year.

I met Janice from the blog Figs and Twigs, and we know each other from her floral business in California on Instagram. She is a doll and it was wonderful meeting her. She certainly makes us smile with her beautiful photos.

Highlights of MacKenzie-Childs Barn Sale 2017

 

The Butterfly Garden Tumblers had been on my wish list and they are more reasonable at 50% off :-)  

Flower market cutting board, Berries & Blossoms dinner plates, Poppy dish towel, Daisy dish towel.

I picked up the Courtly Stripe Chandelier Shade for an accent lamp I had, and got one for a friend.

The cannister trio came home with me, and I haven't decided what to fill them with. I've never had cannisters on my counter. 

Most of the people I met at the barn sale were from other states. This is Stacie from Oklahoma. 

Barn Sale treasures and meeting new friends was the highlight of the MacKenzie-Childs Barn Sale. But having quality time with my best friend Mr. Mountain Breaths at the barn sale was even better. The best way to describe the barn sale is that you are at a conference with thousands of people who enjoy what you enjoy. It's a happy place, crowded yes, but everyone is polite. Some of my blog friends would like to attend in 2018, and I sure hope they do. One of the ladies I met at the sale was from Oklahoma and while chatting I found out that the reason she attends the barn sale is because of my blog. The world is smaller than we think. The connections we have that we are unaware of. I receive several emails about the barn sale, and I am happy to help. How long was the line this year? I went on Thursday, arrived at 2 pm and only waited for one hour. We were checked out by 5:30 pm just in time for dinner at the Aurora Inn.

Almost Time for MacKenzie-Childs Barn Sale 2017

Let me preface this by saying I am not at Wegman's filling up my grocery cart. In April, we went to MacKenzie-Childs first ever warehouse sale and stocked up with gifts and a few items for our home. 

The MacKenzie-Childs barn sale in Upstate New York is fast approaching and is an event that I LOVE to attend.  I told Joe I only have a few items on my wish list. Once we get to the sale, he will do what he does every barn sale. He takes off on me and starts loading up HIS cart. It's comical to see him that excited, and then he comes looking for me to show me the loot. He takes me to a corner, reviews each item with me (ugh) and I tell him to return about 95% of the items back to their shelves. All this while I am sweating from the heat in the tent. LOL

The 65 acre farm in Aurora is lovely and people camp the week of the sale. They can visit the studio, retail store and farmhouse that offers daily tours. It's an annual 4-day super shopping event for the luxury home & decor brand. Items at the sale are at least 50% off and up to 80% off. Some items get marked down even more on Sunday. 

There is a large barn on the property, and during the sale it's filled with MKC enamelware.  There are also tents with ceramics, furniture,  glassware, rugs, holiday and more. 
 The sale attracts over 15,000 people, some driving hours across the country and others even camping out overnight. 

The whimsical luxury home décor brand that makes our home and guests smile.

We had a wonderful vacation in Rhinebeck, NY. I'll share photos in the next post as we must focus on the MacKenzie-Childs Barn Sale that is happening this week.

 Living in upstate NY and not far from the Finger Lakes, it was easy to fall in love with MacKenzie-Childs.  I have been a collector for 25 years and started going to the barn sale in 2009.  As I type, people are packing their suitcases and some will start camping out on Tuesday and Wednesday just to be the first to enter Thursday morning. They have everything under tents organized by outdoors, enamelware, ceramics, holiday, glassware, furniture, etc. and plenty of cash registers and shipping areas. The barn sale has hefty discounts, and you can expect to save 50% or more. I have found 80% discounts on specific items. 

The sale attracts over 15,000 people, some driving hours across the country. This is a wonderful event at the company’s gorgeous 65-acre estate farm in Aurora, New York.

MACKENZIE-CHILDS BARN SALE 2012

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you will recall that we are "supporters" of the annual MacKenzie-Childs Barn Sale. 

Once a 19th-century dairy farm, the MacKenzie-Childs property in Aurora, NY is always bustling with shoppers looking for bargains at the barn sale. On the property is the gorgeous Victorian farmhouse and giant barns where items are created and artisans work. The MacKenzie-Childs style is unique. It's whimsical, fun, colorful, sophisticated and classic. My personal favorite is the signature MacKenzie-Childs “courtly check” pattern and I mix and match it with their pottery pieces. Most pieces are handmade, and some pottery has the stamp of the artisan(s) who worked on it. While visiting MacKenzie-Childs, the free farmhouse tour is a must. It's fully decorated, and you'll want to move in. They do photo shoots for the catalog in the farmhouse. I'll let you know what I end up buying!
